Gushan, at age twenty-one, first studied under Master Qing of Fengxian; after two years, Fengxian passed away, whereupon he went to Gushan to shut his door and nurse his illness. He passed away at the age of forty-seven. Over twenty-four years, he authored one hundred and twenty fascicles of writings: diligent indeed!
