26.39

十八賢傳。始不著作者名。疑自昔出於廬山耳。熙寧間。嘉禾賢良陳令舉（舜俞）粗加刊正。大觀初。沙門懷悟以事迹疎略復為詳補。今歷考廬山集高僧傳及晉宋史。依悟本再為補治。一事不遺。自茲可為定本矣。

The Biographies of the Eighteen Worthies originally did not record the author's name; it is suspected to have emerged from Mount Lu in former times. During the Xining era, Chen Lingju (Shunyu), a Worthy and Excellent from Jiahe, roughly edited and corrected it. In the early Daguan era, the monk Huiwu, finding its accounts sparse and sketchy, supplemented it in detail. Now, having thoroughly consulted the Mountain Lu Collection, the Biographies of Eminent Monks, and the histories of the Jin and Song dynasties, I have supplemented and rectified it once more according to Wu's edition, without omitting a single matter. Henceforth, it may serve as the definitive edition.
