27.33

慧思。陳時來居南岳。專誦法華。嘗夢阿彌陀佛彌勒佛與之說法。夏竟受歲豁然大悟法華三昧所未聞經。不疑自解。後將順世。即集門學連日說法。端坐唱佛來也。即合掌而逝。

Huisi came to reside at Nanyue during the Chen dynasty. He devoted himself to reciting the Lotus Sūtra. He once dreamed that Amitābha Buddha and Maitreya Buddha expounded the Dharma to him. When the summer retreat concluded and he received his monastic seniority, he had a grand awakening to the Lotus Samādhi; sūtras he had never heard before became clear to him without doubt. Later, when about to pass away, he gathered his disciples and expounded the Dharma for consecutive days. Sitting upright, he chanted, “The Buddha has come!” and then pressed his palms together and passed away.
