27.46

明瞻。晚歲克志安養。或譏其遲暮。瞻曰。十念功成猶得見佛。吾何慮焉。後因疾於興善寺具齋別道俗。時僕射房元齡杜如晦。皆會焉。日過午整威儀。遽曰。佛來矣。二大士亦至。竦身合掌而化。

Mingzhan dedicated his resolve to the Land of Peaceful Nurturance in his later years. Some mocked him for being late in life. Zhan said, “Even if achieved through ten recitations, one can still see the Buddha; what should I worry about?” Later, due to illness at Xingshan Temple, he prepared a vegetarian feast to bid farewell to monastics and laypeople. At that time, Vice Directors of the Department of State Affairs Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui both attended. When the sun passed midday, he adjusted his deportment and suddenly said, “The Buddha has come! The two Great Beings have also arrived!” He stood upright with pressed palms and passed away.
