The mynah of Changsha. During the Yuanyou era, a person of Changsha Commandery kept a mynah, commonly called 'baba'er'. Upon seeing a monk reciting 'Amitābha Buddha', it followed along and recited it from its mouth, never ceasing morning or evening. For this reason, [the owner] gave it to the monk. After some time, the bird died. The monk prepared a coffin to bury it. Shortly after, a lotus flower grew from its mouth. Someone made a verse praise for it: / 'There is an intelligent bird, the baba'er, / Able to follow a monk's mouth and recite "Amida". / Dead and buried in flat earth, a lotus flower blooms; / How could we humans fail to understand this?'
