張抗。仕石晉為翰林學士。課大悲呪十萬遍。願生西方。一日寢疾唯念佛號忽謂家人曰。西方淨土秖在堂屋西邊。阿彌陀佛坐蓮華上。見翁兒在蓮華池金沙地上禮拜嬉戲。良久念佛而化翁兒抗之孫也。

Zhang Kang served the Later Jin as an Academician of the Hanlin Academy. His daily practice was to recite the Great Compassion Dhāraṇī one hundred thousand times, vowing to be born in the west. One day, bedridden with illness, he recited only the Buddha’s name. Suddenly, he said to his family, “The Western Pure Land is right on the west side of the main hall. Amitābha Buddha is sitting on a lotus flower. I see Weng’er bowing and playing on the golden sands of the lotus pond.” After a while, reciting the Buddha’s name, he passed away. Weng’er was Kang’s grandson.
