28.41

房翥。暴亡入冥府。王曰。據善簿。君曾勸一老人念佛。彼已得生淨土。君乘此福亦合得生。翥曰。尚欲誦金剛經萬卷。既而放還。後卒償其願。臨終異相。不違先報。

Fang Zhu died suddenly and entered the underworld. The King [of the Underworld] said: 'According to the register of good deeds, you once exhorted an old man to recite the Buddha's name, and he has already attained rebirth in the Pure Land. Riding upon this merit, you too should attain rebirth.' Fang Zhu said: 'I still wish to recite ten thousand rolls of the Diamond Sūtra.' Thereupon he was released and returned. Later, he finally fulfilled his vow. Approaching the end, there were wondrous signs, which did not fail the earlier report.
