28.59

梅福。松江人。誦經持戒繫念淨土。臨終預知。即絕食飲水念勢至菩薩。至七日澡浴更衣。端坐告眾曰。勢至菩薩今來迎我。即座化去。

Mei Fu was a native of Songjiang. He chanted sūtras, kept the precepts, and focused his mindfulness on the Pure Land. Knowing beforehand the time of his end, he cut off food, drank only water, and recited the name of Bodhisattva Mahāsthāmaprāpta. On the seventh day, he bathed, changed his clothes, sat upright, and told the assembly, 'Bodhisattva Mahāsthāmaprāpta has now come to welcome me.' He was then transformed upon his seat.
