鎧菴曰。律師以英才偉器。受[怡-台+(由/卜)]悟弘四分之記。斯可矣。而乃別為觀經述新疏。抗分事理。專接鈍機。廢棄格言唯任臆說。此草菴輔正。不得已而條攻之也。至於律家扶新之出。適足以扶不義以抗義戒之哉。

Kai'an says: That the Vinaya Master, with his outstanding talent and great capacity, received the prediction of Shenwu to propagate the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya was indeed fitting. Yet he separately composed a new commentary on the Contemplation Sūtra, forcibly dividing phenomena and principle, solely accommodating dull capacities, discarding standard sayings, and relying solely on his own conjectures. This was why Master Cao'an, in his Fuzheng, could not help but refute him point by point. As for the rise of those Vinaya adherents who upheld the new, it was just sufficient to support the unrighteous to resist the righteous—beware of this!
