具云大方廣佛華嚴經。人法譬具足立題。別行玄記云。大方廣是法。佛是舍那果人。華嚴譬諸地因華莊嚴果德（文）此經總有七處九會。會處不一。故以經標名。

Its full name is the Mahāvaipulya Buddha Avataṃsaka Sūtra. The title is established with person, Dharma, and metaphor all complete. The Biexing xuanji says, "Mahāvaipulya is the Dharma; Buddha is the person of the result, Vairocana; Avataṃsaka (Flower Adornment) uses the flowers of causes on the various stages as a metaphor to adorn the virtues of the result." (passage) In this sutra there are altogether seven places and nine assemblies. Because the assembly places are not uniform, it is designated by the sutra's name.
