舍利弗等白佛言。我等雖獲稱為佛子。皆是如來之咎。非我等過。何者若使如來誓無三乘。我等豈不成於正覺。何為如來。而不見聽在於聖例。時身子等。脫衣悲泣。大千震動（瓔珞經）。

Śāriputra and the others addressed the Buddha, saying, 'Although we have attained the title of Buddha's sons, this is entirely the Tathāgata's fault, not our error. Why so? If the Tathāgata had made a vow that there are no three vehicles, how could we not have attained sambodhi? Why did the Tathāgata not allow us to be included in the rank of the sages?' At that time, Śāriputra and the others cast off their robes and wept bitterly, and the great trichiliocosm shook. (Yingluo jing).
