30.28

按法住記。佛告阿難。我滅度後正法一千年。由女人出家減五百年。像法一千年。末法一萬年。善見論云。佛初不度女人。後為說八敬法。還得一千年。法苑云。天人答南山曰。佛錫杖在龍窟中。四十年住。為如來去後。有飛行羅剎。能說十二部經。詐為善比丘。食諸持戒者日別四百。為斷此惡故鎮龍窟中。復令正法增住四百年。像法增千五百年。末法增二萬年。

According to the Fazhu ji, the Buddha told Ānanda: 'After my parinirvāṇa, the True Dharma will last for 1,000 years. Because of women renouncing household life, it is reduced by 500 years; the Semblance Dharma will last 1,000 years, and the Final Dharma 10,000 years.' The Shanjian lun states that initially the Buddha did not deliver women, but later expounded the eight guru-dharmas for them, so that 1,000 years were regained. The Fayuan [zhulin] states that a deva answered Nanshan: 'The Buddha's khakkhara staff is in a dragon cave, where it has stayed for forty years. Because after the Tathāgata's departure there would be flying rākṣasas able to recite the twelve divisions of scriptures who falsely pose as good bhikṣus and devour four hundred precept-holders daily, it was placed to suppress them in the dragon cave to cut off this evil. This furthermore caused the True Dharma to remain for an additional 400 years, the Semblance Dharma to increase by 1,500 years, and the Final Dharma to increase by 20,000 years.'
