32.25

新婆沙論。八熱獄。一一獄有四門。一一門外有四遊增。有情遊彼其苦增故。地獄有情其形如人。正法念經。阿鼻苦千倍過前七大地獄。

The *New Vibhāṣā Śāstra* states: Each of the eight hot hells has four gates. Outside each gate are four additional excursions (utsada), so called because the suffering of sentient beings increases as they wander into them. The bodies of sentient beings in hell resemble humans. The *Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna Sūtra* states: The suffering of Avīci is a thousand times greater than that of the previous seven great hells.
