明帝永平中。班超使西域到鄯善斬匈奴使者。鄯善王怖納子為質。後發諸國兵擊莎車斬疏勒王。擊破月氏副王。降龜茲．姑墨．溫宿。斬焉耆尉犁二王。威震西域。五十餘國皆納質內屬（東漢班超傳）。

During the Yongping era of Emperor Ming, Ban Chao was sent as an envoy to the Western Regions. Arriving at Shanshan, he beheaded the Xiongnu envoys. Terrified, the king of Shanshan offered his son as a hostage. Later, Ban Chao mobilized troops from various kingdoms to attack Shache and beheaded the king of Shule. He defeated the auxiliary king of the Yuezhi, brought to submission Qiuzi, Gumo, and Wensu, and beheaded the two kings of Yanqi and Weili. His awe shook the Western Regions, and more than fifty kingdoms sent hostages to submit as internal vassals (from Ban Chao's biography in the *History of the Later Han*).
