二月八日明星出時（天向時也）霍然大悟。得無上道成最正覺（因果經。○因果經。先降魔後成道。四教義所列亦同。華嚴經。先成道後降魔。今約華嚴義）。

On the eighth day of the second month, when the morning star appeared (the time toward dawn), he had a sudden, great awakening, obtained the unsurpassed Way, and realized supreme sambodhi (Sūtra of Cause and Effect. — The Sūtra of Cause and Effect places subduing Māra first and realizing the Way afterward; the list in the Sixiao yi is also the same.
