34.69

○秦繆公時。扶風獲一石像。公不識棄馬坊中。護像神怒令公病。又夢天帝責誡。以問侍臣。由余往視像曰。佛神也。公即取像澡浴置淨室。像忽放光。公大異之。召匠造一銅像。

○ In the time of Duke Mu of Qin, a stone image was obtained in Fufeng. The Duke did not recognize it and discarded it in the horse stables. The spirit protecting the image grew angry and caused the Duke to fall ill. Furthermore, he dreamt that the Celestial Emperor reprimanded him. He questioned his attendants, and You Yu went to view the image and said: 'It is a Buddha spirit.' The Duke thereupon took the image, bathed it, and placed it in a clean chamber. The image suddenly emitted light. The Duke marveled greatly at this and summoned artisans to cast a bronze image.
