35.101

韓退之讀荀子云。得荀氏書考其辭。時若不醇要其歸與孔子異者鮮矣。抑猶在軻雄之間乎。孟氏醇乎醇者也。荀與楊大醇而小疵。

Han Tuizhi, on reading *Xunzi*, said: "Having obtained Xun's book and examined his words, though at times they seem impure, when one sums up their ultimate purport, those divergent from Confucius are rare indeed. Would he perhaps still stand between Ke and Xiong? Master Meng is pure of the pure; Xun and Yang are largely pure with minor flaws."
