In the first year of Yuanfeng, His Majesty made an imperial inspection tour to the east and saw an old man whose head emitted white light several feet high, with a youthful complexion. His Majesty asked what Dao he possessed. He replied: "When I was eighty-five and on the verge of death, a Daoist master taught me to abstain from grain, ingest atractylodes, and drink water. Today I can walk three hundred *li* a day, and I am one hundred and eighty years old." The Emperor received his formula. The old man later entered Mount Dai. ○ His Majesty climbed Mount Songgao and built a Daoist palace. After fasting for seven days, white clouds arose in the southwest and proceeded directly to the palace courtyard. Several thousand immortals escorted the Queen Mother of the West riding in a carriage of purple clouds. She bade the Emperor sit, and a maidservant presented four peaches. The Emperor collected their stones wishing to plant them. The Queen Mother said: "These peaches bear fruit once every three thousand years; the soil of the Central Plains is thin and cannot grow them." The Queen Mother ordered her maidservant Wang Zideng to play the eight-gem zither, Dong Shuangcheng to blow the cloud-harmony mouth organ, Xu Feiqiong to strum the void-vibrating reed, and Duan Anxiang to perform the melody of the Nine Heavens. The Emperor kowtowed and asked about the way to longevity. The Queen Mother said: "Your nature is wanton, extravagant, violent, and unlawful; if you wish thereby to liberate yourself from the Three Corpses and preserve your body forever, it cannot be attained." She then ordered the Lady of the Upper Origin to bring out the Book of the Eight Confluences, the True Form Chart of the Five Marchmounts, and the Talismans of the Spirit Flight of the Six Jia, twelve items in all, to bestow upon the Emperor. The Queen Mother and the Lady rode together, departing toward the southwest. The Emperor installed the numinous texts at Bailiang Terrace and regularly worshipped them.
