考異曰。史記老子傳注引神仙傳云。老子與尹喜俱之流沙。今刊行列仙傳乃云。俱之流沙化胡。蓋是道士家私增化胡兩字。欲以成化胡成佛之證耳。謬哉。

Critical Examination: The commentary to the biography of Laozi in the Shiji cites the Shenxian zhuan, stating: 'Laozi and Yin Xi together went to the flowing sands.' The currently printed editions of the Liexian zhuan, however, say: 'They together went to the flowing sands to convert the barbarians.' This was merely the Daoists privately adding the two words 'convert the barbarians', intending thereby to produce evidence that he converted the barbarians and became the Buddha. How erroneous!
