In the sixth year, General of the Right Wang Xizhi built Guizong Monastery on Mount Lu for Dharmatrāta from the Western Heavens. / Yu Bing, who was assisting in governing the realm, proposed that monastics should show full veneration to rulers. Minister of the Masters of Writing He Chong and others argued: 'Emperor Wu changed the dynastic mandate through his grand brightness, and Emperor Ming possessed profound insight through his wise sagacity. Was it that monks in those days could not be made to bend the knee? Rather, it was considered that by not altering their method of cultivating goodness, the aspirations of all under heaven could be accommodated.' After the memorial was submitted three times, Bing's proposal was finally laid to rest. / The monk Bo Fazu debated with the Daoist Wang Fu, and Fu was repeatedly defeated; he then forged the Laozi huahu jing. Later, when Dharma Master Fazu passed away, a certain Li Tong died suddenly and saw Dharma Master Fazu in the underworld lecturing on the Śūraṅgama-samādhi-sūtra for King Yama; [Fazu] said that when the lecture was finished, he was to go to the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven to lecture on the scriptures. He also saw the Daoist Wang Fu wearing manacles and fetters, seeking repentance before Dharma Master Fazu. King Yama reprimanded him, saying, 'You concocted falsehoods to slander the Buddha. You shall be released from your offenses only when the forged scriptures in the world are completely destroyed' (an added note states: 'The text was originally in one fascicle, but his followers expanded it to eleven fascicles. Fascicle one speaks of converting the Hu king of Kaśmīra; fascicle two speaks of subduing non-Buddhists in the kingdom of Kosala; fascicle three speaks of converting the Hu king of Vipaśyin; fascicle four speaks of converting the seven brothers of the king of Kaśmīra; fascicle five speaks of converting the Hu king over twelve years. All were stolen from Buddhist words and placed arbitrarily').
