In the second year of Yixi, the Kingdom of Siṃhala presented a white jade Buddha statue, four feet two inches in height. ○ At Donglin, where Master Huiyuan resided, a flowing spring encircled the monastery and descended into a stream below. Whenever the Master saw off guests past this point, a tiger would roar; hence it was called Tiger Creek (Huxi). Thereafter, when seeing off guests, he never crossed it. Only when the Daoist Lu Xiujing and Tao Qian arrived did their discussion of the Way so harmonize that they crossed Tiger Creek without realizing it, whereupon they laughed together heartily. The world passes down a depiction of this as the 'Painting of the Three Laughs'. ○ The śramaṇa Buddhayaśas (translated here as Jieming, 'Light of Awakening') from Kaśmīra arrived in Liangzhou; reciting from memory, he produced the *Cāturvargīya-vinaya* (Four-Part Vinaya), translating it together with Zhu Fonian.
