36.69

七年。初沙門法顯西遊經三十餘國。至中天竺登闍崛山。見老僧揖之不顧。有年少來問之。對曰。大迦葉尊者也。追之不復見。顯以經像附商人至師子國。泛南海達青州而還至揚都。譯大般泥洹經五部（大藏有顯法師傳）。

In the seventh year, the śramaṇa Faxian had earlier traveled west through more than thirty kingdoms. Reaching Central Tianzhu, he ascended Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa, where he saw an old monk. Faxian bowed to him, but the monk paid him no heed. A young man came by, whom Faxian asked, and he replied: 'It is the Venerable Mahākāśyapa!' When Faxian pursued him, he was nowhere to be seen. Faxian accompanied merchants with scriptures and images to the Kingdom of Siṃhala, sailed across the southern sea, reached Qingzhou, and returned to Yangdu. He translated five works, including the *Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra* (the Tripiṭaka contains the biography of Master Faxian).
