八年。罽賓國佛馱耶舍。至廬山預蓮社。先於秦國譯四分律長阿含。又與羅什對譯十住婆沙論。以髭赤號為赤髭論主○龜茲國曇無讖至姑臧。涼王沮渠蒙遜。留之譯大般涅槃經四十卷。後固辭西歸。遜怒其去。已密遣人刺於路。初讖出關謂送者曰。業期至矣。既西遜悔。白日見神人。以劍刺之遂卒。讖在涼與道龔諸師。譯悲華經等。

In the eighth year, Buddhayaśas from the Kingdom of Kaśmīra reached Mount Lu and took part in the Lotus Society. Earlier, in the Qin state, he translated the *Cāturvargīya-vinaya* and the *Dīrghāgama*, and also translated the *Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā* in collaboration with Kumārajīva. Because of his red beard, he was known as the 'Red-Bearded Treatise Master'. ○ Dharmakṣema from the Kingdom of Kucha arrived in Guzang. Juqu Mengxun, King of Liang, detained him to translate the forty-scroll *Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra*. Later, Dharmakṣema firmly declined further service and sought to return to the west. Mengxun, angered by his departure, secretly sent assassins to murder him on the road. Earlier, when leaving the pass, Dharmakṣema said to those seeing him off: 'The time of my karma has arrived.' After Dharmakṣema had gone west, Mengxun felt regret; in broad daylight, he saw a divine being stab him with a sword, and he subsequently died. While in Liang, Dharmakṣema, together with Master Daogong and others, translated the *Karuṇāpuṇḍarīka Sūtra* and other texts.
