In the first year of Yongchu, the Emperor held a vegetarian feast in the inner palace, ordering the monk Daozhao to deliver an address. When he reached the lines, 'A hundred years pass swiftly; suffering and joy are but a brief moment,' the Emperor was pleased with them, and separately bestowed thirty thousand in donation gold.
Also, when the Emperor was first born, there was an extraordinary divine light. When he grew up and traveled to Xiapi, he met an extraordinary monk in an inn who said, 'The world is in ruin and chaos; will it not be you, sir, who saves it?' At that time he was suffering from hand sores; the monk left behind a yellow powder medicine and suddenly vanished. When he applied the medicine to the sores, they healed with a single treatment. He once traveled to Zhulin Monastery in Jingkou, sleeping alone in front of the lecture hall; there was the appearance of a five-colored dragon. The monks were alarmed and reported it to the Emperor. The Emperor said, 'Noble sir, do not speak falsely.' The monk Facheng of Jizhou said to his disciples, 'The spirit of Mount Song said, "In Jiangdong there is a General Liu, a descendant of the Han, who accords with Heaven to receive the mandate. I offer thirty-two jade discs and one vase of suppressing gold as a token of pledge."' When the Emperor heard this, he ordered the monk Huiyi to go to Mount Song to seek them. Soon he dreamed of an old man with a long beard pointing with a staff beneath a stone. The next day he went to the stone altar at the shrine to search for them, and indeed obtained them, subsequently presenting them to the Emperor. The Emperor dreamed of an extraordinary monk who spoke to him, saying, 'In a past life, sir, you once gave a bowl of food to Vipaśyin Buddha; you now receive this position as retribution.'
