十年。左僕射徐陵。以顗禪師創寺請於朝。賜號修禪（今大慈也）師為兄陳鍼述小止觀。咨受修習。初仙人張果相之曰。死在朞月。師及令行方等懺。鍼見天堂門牌曰。陳鍼之堂。果後見鍼驚問。君服何神藥。答曰。但修懺耳。果曰。若非道力安能超死。竟延十五年而終。

In the tenth year, Left Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs Xu Ling requested the court on behalf of Chan Master [Zhi]yi's newly founded monastery, and it was granted the name Xiuchan (now Daci). For his elder brother Chen Zhen, the master composed the Xiǎo zhǐguān, and [Chen Zhen] consulted him and practiced it. Earlier, the immortal Zhang Guo had read Chen Zhen's physiognomy and said: "Your death will occur within a full year." The master then had him practice the Fangdeng repentance. Zhen saw a placard at the gate of a heavenly palace that said: "The Hall of Chen Zhen." Later, Guo saw Zhen and asked in astonishment: "What divine elixir have you taken?" He replied: "I have merely practiced repentance." Guo said: "If not for the power of the Way, how could you transcend death?" In the end, his life was prolonged by fifteen years before he died.
