和平元年。詔沙門統曇曜為昭玄沙門都統。待以師禮（隋百官志。昭玄寺掌佛教。署大統一人統一人都維那三人。置功曹主簿官。以管諸郡沙門）。

In the first year of the Heping reign era, an edict appointed the Saṅgha Supervisor Tanyao as the Chief Supervisor of Monks of the Zhaoxuan Temple, treating him with the rites accorded to a teacher (The Treatise on Official Posts in the Book of Sui notes: The Zhaoxuan Temple managed Buddhist affairs. It appointed one Grand Controller, one Controller, and three Rectors, and established meritorious secretaries and clerks to manage the monks of all commanderies).
