4.47

眾經論明教非一。若摩得勒伽有二藏。聲聞藏菩薩藏。又諸經有三藏。十一部是聲聞藏。方廣部是菩薩藏。合十一部。是雜藏。又有四藏者。更開佛藏。菩薩處胎經為八藏。胎化藏。中陰藏。未為阿難說時。即是祕密教。為阿難說後。即是不定教。摩訶衍方等藏即頓教。戒律藏即二藏教。十住藏即方等教。雜藏即通教。金剛藏即別教。佛藏即圓教（胎化即是如來託胎所說諸經。中陰即是如來住胎所說一切諸法）。

The various scriptures and treatises explain the teachings in more than one way: according to the *Mātṛkā*, there are two piṭakas, the Śrāvaka Piṭaka and Bodhisattva Piṭaka. Also, various scriptures have three piṭakas: the eleven divisions are the Śrāvaka Piṭaka; the Vaipulya division is the Bodhisattva Piṭaka; and combining the eleven divisions makes the Miscellaneous Piṭaka. There are also four piṭakas, further opening the Buddha Piṭaka. The *Bodhisattva Garbhāvakrānti Sūtra* establishes eight piṭakas: the Womb Transformation Piṭaka and the Intermediate State Piṭaka, before they were preached to Ānanda, were the Secret Teaching, and after they were preached to Ānanda, were the Indeterminate Teaching; the Mahāyāna Vaipulya Piṭaka is the Sudden Teaching; the Precepts and Vinaya Piṭaka is the Teaching of the Two Piṭakas; the Ten Stages Piṭaka is the Vaipulya Teaching; the Miscellaneous Piṭaka is the Shared Teaching; the Diamond Piṭaka is the Distinct Teaching; and the Buddha Piṭaka is the Perfect Teaching. (Womb transformation refers to all the scriptures preached by the Tathāgata upon entering the womb; intermediate state refers to all dharmas preached by the Tathāgata while residing in the womb.)
