二十四年。勅頒御註金剛般若經於天下○中書奏令天下僧尼隷鴻臚寺○吳道玄字道子。妙窮丹青。大略宗張僧繇。上召入供奉。於景公寺畫地獄變。都人咸觀皆懼罪修善。兩市屠沽不售（今世有石本道子觀音）。

In the twenty-fourth year, an imperial edict promulgated the Imperially Annotated Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra throughout the empire. / The Secretariat memorialized requesting that monks and nuns throughout the empire be placed under the Court of State Ceremonial. / Wu Daoxuan, courtesy name Daozi, achieved consummate mastery in painting, generally taking Zhang Sengyou as his model. The Emperor summoned him into court service. At Jinggong Monastery, he painted the transformation tableau of Hell. When the people of the capital viewed it, they were all terrified of sin and cultivated goodness; the butchers and wine-sellers in the two markets could find no buyers (in the present age there is a stone-carved Daozi Guanyin).
