His Majesty sent the Vice Director of the Secretariat Xu Qiao carrying an imperial letter with the seal to summon the master of techniques Zhang Guo. When he entered for an audience, Xing Hepu, who was skilled in calculation and knew people's lifespans, calculated Guo's span but could not determine it. Shi Yeguang was skilled at seeing ghosts; when His Majesty sat secretly with Guo, Yeguang could not see him. His Majesty heard that one who drinks monkshood juice without suffering is a truly extraordinary man (monkshood juice is the poison of aconite). He gave him three cups. Guo appeared drunken and tipsy, looked to his attendants, and said, 'This is no fine wine.' He took an iron ruyi scepter and struck out his teeth, which were all charred and black. He took out divine medicine and applied it to his gums; after a short rest, his teeth were bright and white as before. Later, he earnestly declined office and returned to the mountains. An imperial edict was issued saying: 'Master Zhang Guo's aspiration reached loftiness, while his traces mingled with the dust of the world. Questioned on the pivot of the Dao, he deeply met the ultimate principle. It is fitting to promote him to Grand Master of the Silver-Blue Radiance with the Golden Seal and Purple Ribbon, titled Master of Penetrating Mystery (Tongxuan).' Later, he entered Mount Heng, and his end is unknown (Guo was the one who, during the Liang and Chen dynasties, read the physiognomy of Master Zhiyi's elder brother, Chen Zhen).
