41.23

貞元元年。韋臯為西川節度使。初臯生一月有梵僧見之。別久得無恙乎。兒為一笑。眾問其故。僧曰。此諸葛武侯後身也。其政治後當在蜀。及是而驗。臯在蜀二十一年。功烈為西南最。

In the first year of Zhenyuan, Wei Gao became Military Commissioner of Xichuan. Earlier, when Gao was one month old, an Indian monk saw him and asked, 'Having been parted for so long, have you been well?' The child smiled at him. When the assembly asked the reason, the monk said, 'He is the later embodiment of Marquis Wu of Zhuge. His governance will later be in Shu.' This proved true at this time. Gao remained in Shu for twenty-one years, his meritorious achievements being the greatest in the southwest.
