In the seventh month of the fourth year, Chan Master Wenyi of Qingliang in Jinling entered nirvaṇa. The Latter Lord of Tang in Jiangnan had treated him with the etiquette of a master. Upon his passing, he was posthumously titled Great Fayan. Followers named it the Fayan School. (See Chan Master Luohan Zhen, ninth generation of Qingyuan.) ○ The hermit Tan Jingsheng resided in the Zhongnan Mountains and became a friend of Chen Tuan. He composed the Book of Transformations in one hundred and ten chapters, exhaustively covering the origins of change. After a long time, he ascended as an immortal. He once traveled to the Three Mao Mountains and arrived in Jianye to meet Song Qiqiu, deeming him to possess the immortal detachment and bone of the Dao. He brought out his book to show him, entrusting him to write a preface to transmit it to the world. Qiqiu then stole it and claimed it under his own name, yet he never comprehended the profound depths of the Dao. (Qiqiu served as grand councillor under two rulers of the Latter Tang.)
