An imperial decree ordered the repair and adornment of the various statues on Mount Tai, thirty-two figures in all. The emperor composed the Record of the Restoration of Buddhist Statues. / Mount Yandang had never been mentioned in ancient maps and genealogies. At the summit of the mountain is a great pool, traditionally called Yandang; below are two pools, which are the Dragon Pools. South of the mountain is Lotus Peak, below which is Lotus Relay Station, facing the great ocean before it. According to Western Indian texts, the Venerable Nakula resides at the southeastern maritime border of Cīnasthāna, where the mountain is named after a bird and the village after a flower. In the Tang dynasty Guanxiu had a praise: 'Where the geese flutter along the path, clouds stretch endless; / When sitting peacefully by the Dragon Pool, mist-rain falls.' In the Xiangfu era woodcutters first came upon it, and thenceforth it became famous. (The mountain is in Yueqing, Wenzhou. Nakula is one of the sixteen arhats who abide in the world. In Sanskrit, Cīnasthāna means the Eastern Land of Noble Gentlemen.) / Chan Master Benxian of Ruidu on Mount Yan passed away while seated in the seal posture. After a full month, his physical body had not decayed, and an unusual fragrance was constantly smelled. An imperial decree ordered that his Zhulin ji (Bamboo Grove Collection) be procured and stored in the Imperial Archives. (He was an heir of State Preceptor Shao.)
