45.14

明道元年十月一日。天竺慈雲法師說法坐逝。人見大星殞於鷲峯紅光赫然。師於前朝進金光明護國儀。上因閱視至發願文有諸天威神護持我國聖帝仁王慈臨無際。撫几歎曰。朕得此人可以致治。亟宣召之則師入滅矣。

On the first day of the tenth month of the first year of Mingdao [1032], Dharma Master Ciyun of Tianzhu passed away while seated, expounding the Dharma. People saw a great star fall on Vulture Peak with brilliant red light. During the previous reign, the Master had presented the *Ritual for the Protection of the State through the Golden Light*. When His Majesty read it and reached the vow text saying, "All heavenly beings with majestic spirits protect our state, and the holy sovereign and benevolent king's compassion reigns without bounds," he patted the table and sighed: "Having obtained this man, I could bring about good governance." When he urgently summoned him, the Master had already entered extinction.
