45.72

述曰。學仙之流已執所得。知佛道為究竟者不多有也。如張平叔明佛性。呂洞賓悟禪理。時一見耳。今世道流不知學。謂仙為陽魂。釋為陰鬼。著此說以誤後人。皆不知佛性禪理之過。

The author remarks: Those who study immortality generally cling to their attainments; those who know that the Buddhist path is ultimate are not many. Those who, like Zhang Pingshu, comprehended the Buddha-nature, or like Lǚ Dongbin, awakened to Chan principles, are only seen once in a while. Nowadays, Daoist practitioners do not know how to study: they claim immortals are yang souls and Buddhists are yin ghosts, composing such theories to mislead later generations. These are all errors resulting from not knowing Buddha-nature and Chan principles.
