The Buddha realm: If a person, by reading the perfect and complete sūtras and hearing what good spiritual friends preach, gives rise to pure faith; having believed that the nature of the three paths in a single thought-moment is none other than the nature of the three virtues—the path of suffering is the Dharma-body, afflictions are prajñā, and binding karma is liberation; the Dharma-body is ultimate, prajñā is pure, and liberation is sovereign; when one is ultimate, all are ultimate, so prajñā and liberation are also ultimate; when one is pure, all are pure, so the Dharma-body and liberation are also pure; when one is sovereign, all are sovereign, so the Dharma-body and prajñā are also sovereign; being one they are three, being three they are one, neither vertical nor horizontal, nor are they one or different; the Dharma-body is permanently abiding, and the rest are also permanently abiding, and so too with bliss, self, and purity—then this secret treasury of the four virtues of permanence and bliss pervades all places, and all dharmas are completely the Buddha-dharma. Having believed this, one binds the mind to the object and binds the object to the mind; mind and object continue uninterrupted from thought-moment to thought-moment, and one will certainly see the Dharma-nature. If one has not yet attained correspondence, one should rely on the single real, unconstructed four truths and give rise to the four great vows: amidst that in which there is nothing to be sought, I nevertheless seek it. Relying on the aforesaid path of suffering, which is the truth of suffering, give rise to one vow: 'Those who have not crossed over, I shall cause to cross over.' Afflictions and karma are the truth of accumulation; give rise to one vow: 'Those who have not been released, I shall cause to be released.' The path of suffering being the Dharma-body is the truth of cessation; give rise to one vow: 'Those who have not attained nirvāṇa, I shall cause to attain nirvāṇa.' Afflictions being bodhi is the truth of the path; give rise to one vow: 'Those who are not at ease, I shall cause to be at ease.' If one cannot enter via the four universal vows, one should skillfully pacify the mind. Progressively cultivating all ten dharmas in this manner, one will surely enter the five grades, the six senses, and the stages of partial realization; this is called the Buddha Dharma realm.
