齊武帝。沙門僧鍾見上稱貧道。上以問王儉。對曰。晉宋以來多稱貧道。而使預座。

Southern Qi Dynasty. Emperor Wu: The śramaṇa Sengzhong, upon an audience with the sovereign, referred to himself as "This Impoverished Daoist." The sovereign inquired of Wang Jian about this, who replied: "Since the Jin and Song dynasties, many have called themselves 'This Impoverished Daoist,' and were allowed to participate in court assemblies."
