宋仁宗。參政張方平出知滁州。至僧舍見楞伽經。手迹宛然。知前身為書經僧○宰相曾公亮。前身是禪門青草堂○頴州官妓。口作蓮華香。蜀僧曰。此女前為尼。誦法華三十年○哲宗。蘇軾前身五祖戒禪師。

Emperor Renzong of the Song. When Participant in Determining Governmental Affairs Zhang Fangping went out to govern Chuzhou, he went to a monks' quarters and saw a Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra; the handwriting was clearly his own, and he knew that his previous life was a scripture-copying monk. The previous life of Grand Councillor Zeng Gongliang was Qingcaotang of the Chan lineage. An official courtesan in Yingzhou had a breath with the fragrance of a lotus flower; a Sichuan monk said, "This woman was previously a nun who recited the Lotus Sūtra for thirty years." Under Zhezong, Su Shi's previous life was Chan Master Jie of Mount Wuzu.
