52.25

唐太宗。詔京城諸郡僧道。轉經行道七日夜。祈保秋成。每歲正七月為式○詔京城沙門。每月二十七日行道。轉仁王經。為國祈福○詔淨禪師至京祈雨。感白虹晝見。大雨通濟○中宗。詔菩提流志結壇祈雨。三日大澍。

Emperor Taizong of the Tang. He decreed that monks and Daoists of the capital and various commanderies turn the scriptures and practice the Way for seven days and nights to pray for and protect the autumn harvest, making this the standard each year in the first and seventh months. He decreed that śramaṇas of the capital practice the Way on the twenty-seventh day of each month, turning the Renwang jing (Benevolent Kings Sūtra) to pray for blessings for the state. He decreed that Chan Master Jing come to the capital to pray for rain; this induced a white rainbow to appear by day, and heavy rain brought complete relief. Under Emperor Zhongzong, Bodhiruci was ordered to erect an altar and pray for rain; after three days, it rained heavily.
