唐太宗幸國子監。命孔頴達講孝經。大徵名儒。增築學舍。學生至三千二百六十員。自屯營飛騎亦給博士授經。高麗吐蕃皆遣子弟入學。升講筵者八千人。命頴達撰定五經疏。宋仁宗詔天下立郡學。

Emperor Taizong of the Tang visited the Directorate of Education and commanded Kong Yingda to lecture on the Classic of Filial Piety. He extensively summoned famous scholars and expanded the school buildings, so that the students reached 3,260. Even for the garrison encampments and the Flying Cavalry, Erudites were assigned to instruct them in the classics. Goryeo and Tibet both dispatched their scions to enter the academy. Those who mounted the lecture hall numbered 8,000. He commanded Yingda to compile and establish the Subcommentaries to the Five Classics. Emperor Renzong of the Song decreed that prefectural schools be established throughout the realm.
