An imperial decree instructed Tripiṭaka Master Divākara and Du Xingyi to jointly translate the *Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī*, with imperial permission not to avoid national taboos. Empress Wu dispatched an envoy to the country of Khotan to welcome Śikṣānanda, who arrived at the Eastern Capital and retranslated the *Avataṃsaka Sūtra* in eighty rolls (this was the second translation). Under Zhongzong, Chancellor Fang Rong arrived in the South Sea, where he met Pāramiti translating the *Śūraṅgama Sūtra*, and Rong recorded it in his own hand. An imperial decree ordered Tripiṭaka Master Yijing to translate the *Bhaiṣajyaguru Seven Buddhas Sūtra*; the Emperor recorded it in his own hand. An imperial decree ordered Bodhiruci to translate sūtras in the Foguang Hall; the Emperor recorded them in his own hand, while the hundred officials sat in attendance. Bodhiruci translated the *Ratnakūṭa Sūtra*; Wu Pingyi, an academician of the Xiouwen Hall, was appointed Commissioner for Translating Sūtras, and Lu Zangyong and others polished the text. Bodhiruci presented the newly translated sūtras; a vegetarian banquet was bestowed in the Linguang Hall, and court painters were ordered to paint portraits of the translation masters on the palace walls. Under Ruizong, Bodhiruci translated the *Ratnakūṭa Sūtra*; Chancellor Zhang Yue, Vice Minister Lu Xiangxian, Erudite He Zhizhang, and others polished the text. Under Dezong, Bodhiruci presented the *Ratnakūṭa Sūtra* in one hundred and twenty rolls, and the Emperor composed the "Preface to the Holy Teaching." Tripiṭaka Master Prajñā translated the *Avataṃsaka Sūtra*'s chapter on "Pure Conduct," which had been presented by the country of Uḍra; the Emperor personally attended the translation site, examining the text and making corrections. Tripiṭaka Master Prajñā and Master Chengguan presented the newly translated *Avataṃsaka Sūtra* in forty rolls (this was the third translation). Under Xianzong, an imperial decree appointed Remonstrator Meng Jian and others to supervise the translation and polish the text in the Liquan Palace.
