唐高宗。奘法師譯因明論。尚藥呂才作解毀之。有旨令公卿領才。就法師禮悔○宣宗。京城進士孫樵。上書言。武宗髮二十七萬僧。陛下奈何興之於已廢之後。帝怒不納。

Under Emperor Gaozong of the Tang, Dharma Master [Xuan]zang translated the Hetuvidyā-śāstra; the Chief Imperial Physician Lü Cai composed an interpretation defaming it. An edict ordered high officials to lead Cai to go to the Dharma Master to perform repentant prostrations. Under Emperor Xuanzong, the metropolitan scholar Sun Qiao submitted a memorial saying, "Emperor Wuzong made 270,000 monks grow their hair; how can Your Majesty revive them after they have already been abolished?" The emperor was angered and did not accept it.
