6.16

贊曰。北齊以上哲之姿。獨悟中觀。而當時諸師無與競化。非明最嵩鑒所能知也。既以口訣授之南岳。而北地門徒曾無傳者。蓋當高氏政亂國蹙之日。宜此道之不能顯也。南山傳僧逸而不載。亦豈無所考耶。慈雲云。得龍樹一心三智之文。依論立觀。於茲自悟。豈曰無師。

The appraisal says: With the caliber of a superior sage, [the Master of] the Northern Qi independently awakened to the Middle Contemplation, and among the masters of that time none could rival his transformation; this was not something that could be known by Ming, Zui, Song, or Jian. Having orally transmitted the essential instructions to Nanyue, among the disciples in the northern regions there were none who transmitted them. This was probably during the days when the Gao clan's government was in disorder and the state was shrinking; it was natural that this path could not become prominent. When Nanshan compiled the biographies of monks, he omitted him without recording [his life]; how could this be without investigation? Ciyun said: "He obtained the text on the three wisdoms in a single mind from Nāgārjuna, established contemplation based on the treatise, and thereupon awakened by himself—how could it be said that he had no teacher?"
