9.14

禪師慧威。江陵人。依南岳行法華三昧。得解一切眾生語言陀羅尼。聞人畜禽鳥聲必知其意。後又發證神通。飛空履水如步平地。

Dhyāna Master Huiwei was a native of Jiangling. Relying on Nanyue, he practiced the Lotus Samādhi and attained the dhāraṇī of understanding the languages of all sentient beings; whenever he heard the sounds of humans, beasts, or birds, he was sure to know their meaning. Later, he also manifested and realized supernatural powers, flying through the sky and treading upon water as if walking on flat ground.
