Dhyāna Master Huimin was a native of Hedong. He left household life at age nine, and after a month he had completely mastered chanting the *Wondrous Sūtra*. At age fifteen, he requested the Dharma from Dhyāna Master Guang; senior scholars praised him for being eminent and brilliant. After another fifteen years, he returned to Haiyan in Jiahe to preside over Guangxing Temple and lectured on the Lotus [Sūtra]. The assembly heard the devas in the sky snapping their fingers, and an extraordinary fragrance filled the hall. Later, he stayed at Tongxuan Temple, gathering disciples to practice the Way. For seventeen years his feet never crossed the threshold. At the end of the Sui, when the realm fell apart, there was famine in Wu and the fourfold assembly fled the turmoil; only the master stood fast until death in dhyāna and chanting. At the beginning of the Tang dynasty, he moved to Nanjian Temple (in Jiankang). There were two rabbits and a young tiger that lived together with him in mutual affection. One day, the assembly heard extraordinary fragrance and heavenly music, and vied with one another to question the master. The master said: 'I shall pass away the day after tomorrow. Residing in this world is like a floating cloud; one must seek deliverance early.' When the time came, he indeed passed away in accordance with transformation.
