9.25

禪師法慎。初居金陵大莊嚴寺。從智者稟受三觀豁然深證。因定發持一聞能記。陳大建三年。智者於瓦官說次第禪門。師於聽次。私記為三十卷。尚未修治不幸入滅。其後章安治定為十卷即禪波羅蜜漸次止觀也。

Chan Master Fashen initially resided at Dazhuangyan Monastery in Jinling. Receiving the Three Contemplations from Zhiyi, he had an open and deep realization. Through concentration, he developed retentive power and could remember whatever he heard once. In the third year of the Dajian era of the Chen dynasty, when Zhiyi was teaching the Sequential Gates of Chan at Waguan, the Master privately recorded it during the lectures into thirty scrolls. Before he could edit it, he unfortunately passed away. Later, Zhang'an edited and established it into ten scrolls, which is the Sequential Calming and Insight on the Perfection of Meditation.
