Examining the conferrals and receptions of the patriarchs, narrating the transmissions across successive generations: if one wishes to view a thousand ages, one must scrutinize the present day. In order to clarify that from the Northern Qi down to Fazhi the orthodox lineage had its origins, I have composed the Table of the Successive Transmissions of the Teaching. In order to clarify that from the patriarchs under Śākyamuni down to the masters of the present time the transmission of the lamp is endless, I have composed the Table of the Generational Lineage of the Buddhas and Patriarchs, together in two fascicles.
