Dharma Master Wuchi was a native of Cixi. He received his training under Xingguo. He was ordained after passing the examination by reciting the Lotus Sūtra. He transmitted the teachings of Master Ji and thoroughly mastered their profound purports. Whenever he was made to lecture on his behalf, he fully displayed his teacher’s style. To the west of the county seat, the woods and springs of Yong’an were particularly fine, and the assembly invited him to revive what had fallen into ruin. After eighteen years, the halls, pavilions, and images were completely provided for. At the beginning of the Baoyuan era, Emperor Renzong heard of it at court and bestowed the name Fuyuan. He settled the community and lectured on the Way, flourishing into a great Dharma assembly. As a person he was lenient and harmonious, receiving guests with extra courtesy. He was elegantly fond of pure conversation, never tiring all day long. In his dwelling he planted many fine fruits, built embankments, and managed the fields, so that in years of bad harvests there was no shortage. Both the Dharma and food were provided, and people all rejoiced to rely on him. (In the Siming jiaoxing lu there are three letters sent to Chi’s nephew, the master of Mount Yong’an; this refers to him. The matter is seen in the Fuyuan kaishan ji. In this, the basic annals omitted two people. This fascicle has thirty-three people in total; the basic annals only record twenty-three people, omitting ten.)
