Dharma Master Jianwen was a native of Siming. He was bestowed the title Shenzhi ('Divine Wisdom'). He was the foremost of Guangzhi's Dharma heirs. Succeeding to the seat at Nanhu, he extensively propagated the teachings of his patriarchal predecessors. He once said, 'It is through Śākyamuni Buddha that I was able to leave home and hear the Way. It is through Great Master Zhizhe that I was able to rely on a master and study the doctrine.' Thereupon, his daily practice consisted of reciting the names of the Buddhas and patriarchs a thousand times, and prostrating a thousand times at night, using this to repay their kindness. He never abandoned this due to mundane affairs.
