Dharma Master Huishen visited lecturing seats everywhere in his youth. When he saw Beichan, he thoroughly awakened to the way of contemplation. Later, when the King of the Dharma entered quiescence, the master followed in his footsteps and conducted transformation. In the aftermath of the military devastation of the Jianyan era, he exerted all his efforts in construction and finally restored the old system. Leading his disciples and preaching the Dharma, he never neglected his duties for a single day on account of affairs. When he was about to construct the main hall, the assembly urged him to visit affluent families. The master said, 'Rather than going out the door to solicit donors, it is better to close the door and pray to the gods.' Moved by his sincere intention, donors arrived on their own. The master occupied the principal seat for twenty-nine years. There was a monk named Shanju who served as administrator and acted in the same manner. Pure, frugal, and hardworking, his support and assistance were principled. When someone gave him money, he would wrap it around his waist or hold it in his wrist, personally carrying it back, lest spending money on porterage diminish the donor's merit.
