On the seventh day of the second month, when the evil demons retreated and dispersed, the Bodhisattva's mind was pure, serene, and unmoving. The setting sun held back its light, the clear moon shone brightly, and the myriad stars sparkled. Heaven rained exquisite flowers and performed various music as an offering. Having subdued Māra, the Bodhisattva emitted a great radiance and immediately entered samādhi, contemplating paramārtha-satya. He fully knew the good and evil deeds committed in the past, the lengths of life, and that all sentient beings transmigrate in the five destinies without anything real, enduring bitter and pleasant experiences in vain. When the morning star appeared, he experienced a sudden great awakening (that is, at dawn on the eighth day) and attained the unsurpassed Way, becoming the Supreme and Fully Enlightened One (Guo qu xian zai yin guo jing. This is the aspect of attaining the Way as seen by those of Hīnayāna capacities). On the day the Buddha attained the Way, King Droṇodana (the first younger brother) sent an envoy to report to King Śuddhodana: 'Your esteemed younger brother has given birth to a son' (the first younger brother, King Śuklodana). The king rejoiced in his heart and said to the envoy: 'Today is most auspicious. This boy shall be named Ānanda (translated here as 'rejoicing').' The entire country celebrated; he is also named Qingxi (Da zhidu lun). In this year, Lady Yaśodharā gave birth to a son named Rāhula (translated here as 'hindrance/veil', meaning hindered by being enclosed). At that time, the asura Rāhu devoured the moon, and he was named after this event. When the Crown Prince initially left home, he pointed to his consort's belly and said: 'After six years, you will give birth to a boy.' Now, having stayed in the womb for six years, he was born (Ruiying jing).
